Top international sire War Front will have his 2017 stud fee raised to $250,000, Claiborne Farm announced Oct. 17 along with the breeding fees for the other nine stallions on the farm's roster.
Currently the world's leading sire of 2-year-olds and one of North America's leading commercial sires, War Front's fee is up $50,000 from what it was for 2016.
"War Front's progeny continue to dominate worldwide at the highest levels, both on the racetrack and in the sale rings," said Claiborne Farm representative Bernie Sams. "From a breeder's perspective, he offers the chance to hit the jackpot. Whether it's a grade I winner at Ascot, a Breeders' Cup champion, or a seven-figure sale topper here in the States, anything is possible."
Following the 13-day Keeneland September yearling sale, War Front had 19 yearlings sell for an average of $633,947. Two of his progeny sold for more than $1 million and 14 sold for $500,000 or more.
Two other Claiborne stallions who will see a slight rise in stud fees next year are Algorithms and Flatter . Algorithms, the undefeated graded stakes-winning son of Bernardini , will stand for $7,500 in 2017, up from $5,000. His second-crop yearlings were well received at the Keeneland September sale, with three yearlings bringing over $200,000, well above his stud fee. Among Algorithms' three stakes horses this year is Recruiting Ready, runner-up in the Bashford Manor Stakes (gr. III) and placed in the Iroquois Stakes (gr. III).
Flatter, the proven son of A.P. Indy will stand for $35,000 in 2017, up from $30,000. This year, Flatter is among North America's leading sires with six graded stakes horses. Only Tapit , War Front, and Bernardini have more. Flatter is the sire of five graded stakes winners in 2016, including Upstart, Kobe's Back, Ami's Flatter, and grade I winners Paola Queen and Taris.
