Gainesway Colts Among Hips to Watch

Colts by leading sire Tapit   and his son Tapizar  , third on this year’s first-crop sire list, are among the top horses to watch when the three-day Fasig-Tipton October sale launches Oct. 24. With daily sessions at 10 a.m., the sale in Lexington runs through Oct. 26.

Hip 334, a son of Tapit consigned by Gainesway has a loaded female family, with his unraced dam, the Carson City mare Pretty City, having already produced grade I winners Lear's Princess and Pretty City Dancer, a filly also sired by Tapit who had been pointed toward the 14 Hands Winery Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (gr. I), before being derailed by a minor injury.

Hip 295 is a colt by Tapizar out of a winning Deputy Minister mare who is a half sister to grade III winner Successful Outlook, the dam of grade I winner Sweet Lulu and to the recent impressive Kelso (gr. I) winner Anchor Down.

"He’s a balanced, well-made, good-quality colt and well liked at the farm,” said Gainesway sales director Michael Hernon.

Another Fasig-Tipton yearling with a significant update in its catalog page is Hip 208, a son of Lookin At Lucky   whose half sister Noble Beauty won the grade III Pucker Up Stakes in August. The colt is consigned by his breeder Ramsey Farm.

Hip 11, a Malibu Moon   filly from Eaton Sales is the second foal out of the stakes-winning More Than Ready   mare In the Slips and is the highest-priced previously purchased horse in the October sale. Trainer Gary Contessa bought the filly for $220,000 as a weanling on behalf of a client for the purpose of pinhooking her into a yearling sale.

Also offered on the first day is Hip 339, another Malibu Moon filly who is the first foal out of a half sister to Happy Ticket, the grade II winner who reported home first in 12 of 20 starts and earned more than $1.6 million. She is consigned by Paramount Sales.
