Yearlings out for inspection at Fasig-Tipton October

The VanMeter-Gentry consignment of Tom VanMeter and Olin Gentry came into the Fasig-Tipton October yearling sale ready to fire with both barrels. Among their offerings is a More Than Ready   colt that found itself on the short list of most buyers for the Oct. 25 second session of the sale in Lexington.

Consigned as Hip 428, the colt bred in Kentucky by Olin Gentry and Gaines-Gentry Stallion Holdings was bought back on a final bid of $325,000 from this year's Keeneland September yearling sale. The colt is a half brother to the stakes-placed Tiznow   colt Tiznow R J and descends from the extended female family of champion Miesque and the late leading sire Kingmambo.

"I told (Fasig-Tipton president and CEO) Boyd Browning I was bringing bazookas to a knife fight," VanMeter said half-heartedly of his consignment, which also included the session-topping $350,000 Curlin   colt offered the first day. The colt was a $275,000 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga RNA.

Also on the Tuesday horses to watch list is a Tapizar   colt with a recent major catalog update. Consigned as Hip 489 by St George Sales, the colt is a half brother to stakes winner Victress, who recently added a grade III placing to her resume when second in the Ballerina Stakes at Canada's Hastings Park, and to grade II-placed Majestic Presence.

Others to watch for Oct. 25 include:

—Hip 617, a New York-bred filly by the state's leading sire Freud  , consigned by Denali Stud

—Hip 576, an Uncle Mo   filly who is half sister to Canadian stakes winner Smuggler's Hold (Stroll), from Paramount Sales, agent

—Hip 593, a Baccari Bloodstock-consigned filly by Bodemeister   out of a stakes-winning daughter of Malibu Moon   from the family of grade I winner Track Barron.
