A Curlin colt from the VanMeter-Gentry consignment had a more productive second trip through the sales ring when he was purchased by Joe Minor’s JSM Equine/Justin Casse, agent, for $350,000 at the Oct. 24 first session of the Fasig-Tipton October yearling sale. The price was the highest of the auction at the time he went through the ring.
Hip 293, who had been bought back on a final bid of $275,000 at the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga yearling sale, was produced from Party Chatter, a daughter of Pleasant Colony who is a full sister to stakes winners Colonial U. S., Silver Fox, and Pleasant Feeling.
JSM's Joe Minor and Casse said the colt was bought to be resold through Ciaran Dunne’s Wavertree Stables as a 2-year-old next year.
Minor said he saw the colt at Saratoga but did not bid on him.
“We liked him there and liked him better today,” Minor said. “I think he’s a stunning horse who looks the part. I think he will make a great 2-year-old.”
Consignor Tom VanMeter said the colt had a few minor issues when he went through the ring at Saratoga but they were taken care of before Monday’s sale and that the final price was well above the reserve price.
“We are always hopeful that he would sell well and he did,” VanMeter said.
