Hip 144, a Malibu Moon filly, brought $300,000

A Malibu Moon   filly that was described by her consignor as a "sculpture" was purchased by Rick Porter’s Fox Hill Farm for $300,000 to be the top-priced offering early during the first session of the Fasig-Tipton October yearling sale.

Consigned as Hip 144 by Brookdale Sales, the filly bred in Kentucky by Godolphin was produced from the grade I-winning Unbridled's Song mare Magnificent Song.

Victoria Keith, who signed the sales receipt, said Fox Hill's agent Tom McGreevy selected the filly and trainer Larry Jones inspected and approved the gray April 22, 2015 foal.

"She is an excellent physical and has a nice pedigree," said Keith, adding that the purchase price was at "our ceiling."

Brookdale Sales' Joe Seitz said he was not surprised with the filly's price.

"She was such a gorgeous individual she looked like a sculpture," Seitz said. "She was in a perfect place and she stuck out. We knew she would sell for significantly higher than the reserve and that was a great price."

Seitz said the filly proved popular with potential buyers during pre-sale inspections.

"It was constant; incessant," the consignor said. "The poor filly was out from daybreak until we closed the barn at the end of the day, non-stop. I think she is going to appreciate a few days off."
