With the potential of rain looming in Southern California, several Breeders' Cup horses got an early start Oct. 27 at Santa Anita Park, headlined by Fox Hill Farms' undefeated Songbird.

The champion 2-year-old filly of 2015 recorded her final breeze for the Breeders' Cup Distaff (gr. I) at the Arcadia, Calif., racetrack and cruised through five furlongs in 1:01 flat.

"She's training up to the race well and that should be her final work," trainer Jerry Hollendorfer said after watching the Medaglia d'Oro filly work from the Santa Anita grandstand. "It was a nice, easy work and she galloped out nicely, too."

Hollendorfer said Songbird will walk Oct. 28, jog Oct. 29, and gallop into the Nov. 4 race.

"I couldn't ask for her to be training any better than she is right now," the Hall of Fame conditioner said.

Other Breeders' Cup workers during the 6:30 a.m. PT session included Melatonin (Classic), who worked under Joe Talamo in company outside of a stablemate and covered five furlongs in :59 2/5; Lady Shipman (Turf Sprint), who ran a half in :48 3/5; and Land Over Sea (Distaff), who worked inside grade III winner Frank Conversation and drilled seven furlongs in 1:28 3/5.
