Sidney's Candy to Remain in Argentina

Grade I winner Sidney's Candy, who has stood at WinStar Farm since 2012, will take up permanent residence at Ricardo Benedicto's Haras La Pasion in Argentina, where he will stand during the Southern Hemisphere breeding season. 

The 9-year-old son of Candy Ride   had been shuttling to Haras La Pasion, which is located in the Province of Buenos Aires, the last five Southern Hemisphere breeding seasons after standing each Northern Hemisphere breeding season at WinStar.

From his first crop of 3-year-olds in 2016, Sidney's Candy is led in South America by his filly Pluja (ARG), winner of the Polla de Potrancas Stakes (Arg-II) at La Plata. In America, he's led by first-crop 3-year-old colt Converge, winner of the Palm Beach Stakes (gr. IIIT) earlier this year at Gulfstream Park, and graded stakes-placed filly Sheeza Milky Way.

Bred by Sid and Jenny Craig and campaigned by WinStar and Rubio B. Stable, Sidney's Candy was a multiple graded stakes winner on synthetic and turf. He captured the 2010 Santa Anita Derby (gr. I) before finishing 17th in that year's Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I). The chestnut horse then returned to take the La Jolla Handicap (gr. IIT) in course-record fashion. 

Sidney's Candy nearly added a dirt-track record to his résumé when he won the Sir Beaufort Stakes (gr. III) as a 3-year-old in 1:33 3/5, just a fifth of a second off Santa Anita Park's track record at a mile.

Sidney's Candy went on to capture six graded stakes wins in all, and retired with seven wins from 17 starts and earnings of $1,104,810.
