Ramon Vazquez, currently leading the jockey colony at Remington Park, took full advantage of an opportunity Oct. 29.
While some of his top rivals were out of town to ride in stakes races at other venues, Vazquez stayed put and racked up five wins from his eight mounts on the night.
Vazquez has won the Remington jockey title outright (2013-14) or shared it (2015 with C.J. McMahon) in each of the last three seasons. Vazquez came into the Saturday program leading the current standings with 49 wins, three ahead of McMahon in second place.
Vazquez won the first four races he rode, consecutively from the second to the fifth race. His run began with Compose ($2.80), followed by We've Got To Talk ($13.40), Ruby Sioux ($18.60), and Choir Director ($3.20).
After finishing fourth, fourth, and ninth in his next three attempts, Vazquez gained his fifth victory in the final race of the night. Go Stealth ($5) came home a strong winner to break his maiden and give Vazquez the quintuple.
Now with 54 wins on the season, Vazquez has opened an eight-win lead over McMahon and David Cabrera, both tied for second place with 46 wins. McMahon was one of the jockeys not riding Saturday night at Remington Park because of obligations at other tracks.
