Two down, two to go for Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott.

After working Three Chimneys' Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint (gr. I) contender Carina Mia and Breeders' Cup Mile (gr. IT) runner Tourist over the Santa Anita Park main track Oct. 30, Mott plans to breeze Turf Sprint (gr. IT) contender Celestine and Juvenile Turf (gr. IT) runner Good Samaritan Oct. 31 on the lawn.

Carina Mia, dialing back to seven furlongs after chasing champion Songbird for a runner-up finish in the 1 1/16-mile Cotillion Stakes (gr. I) Sept. 24 at Parx Racing, was clocked in :47 3/5 for a half-mile under assistant trainer Rodolphe Brisset during the 7:45 a.m. training session. The 3-year-old Malibu Moon   filly earned the rare West Coast "breezing" tag for the move.

Brisset wheeled back aboard Tourist at 9 a.m. and the 5-year-old son of Tiznow   worked powerfully through four furlongs in :47 4/5.

"Both horses looked good," Mott said. "Tourist looked like he worked equally as good as Carina Mia—very smooth. We got what we wanted. I think one galloped out in (1:00 4/5), the filly, and he was out in (1:00 1/5), they said."

Coming off a third in the Oct. 8 Shadwell Turf Mile (gr. IT), Tourist looks to improve upon his eighth and 13th in the past two editions of the Breeders' Cup Mile for WinStar Farm, Wachtel Stable, and Gary Barber.

"I don't think there's anybody in the race that is going to get stopped three times and go five wide and win the race. I don't think there's anybody in there that I know could do it," Mott said. "He's doing very well. He's a talented horse, but he's got to have a good trip to win this race. I think the Mile is always the most competitive race. Obviously your turf races produce closer finishes."

Other Breeders' Cup horses on the Santa Anita work tab included Drefong (Sprint), Delta Bluesman (Sprint), and Enchanting Lady (Filly & Mare Sprint).

Drefong worked an easy half-mile in company with fellow grade I winner and Bob Baffert stablemate Mor Spirit. Both were timed in :47 2/5, but Drefong, on the inside, never let Mor Spirit pass in the stretch and finished a head in front.

Not long after that, Enchanting Lady, another Baffert trainee, also logged a half-mile in :47 2/5. Workout outside of stablemate and maiden winner Lemhill Basr, the Tale of the Cat   filly went by with ease in the stretch.

Delta Bluesman, trained by Jorge Navarro, logged his first local workout after shipping in from Monmouth Park. The Smile Sprint (gr. II) winner and son of Wagon Limit worked solo and covered four furlongs in :47 flat.
