Mike Smith is the all-time leading rider by victories (22) and purse earnings ($28,934,260) in the history of the Breeders’ Cup World Championships. The New Mexico native rode his first winner in 1982 and has gone on to amass more than 5,350 lifetime victories. Smith has won each of the three jewels of the U.S Triple Crown and was inducted into the Racing Hall of Fame in 2003.
