Hill 'n' Dale Farm near Lexington released its 2017 stud fees for the 12 stallions on its rosters for next year.
Leading the changes is two-time Horse of the Year Curlin , whose fee has increased from $100,000 to $150,000. The 12-year-old son of Smart Strike is currently third on the general leading sire list with four grade I winners and progeny earnings of nearly $10.4 million.
"Curlin's stud fee increase is commensurate with the extreme quality of racehorse and sales horse he is producing," said John Sikura, president of Hill 'n' Dale. Curlin has five starters in the Breeders' Cup World Championships—Stellar Wind and Curalina (Distaff), Keen Ice (Classic), Valadorna (Juvenile Fillies), and Texas Ryano (Turf).
"Once again, we feel that the Hill 'n' Dale stallions offer breeders a broad choice of quality individuals who are priced competitively in the marketplace," Sikura added. "We are so pleased with Maclean's Music's freshman sire success and are excited about the addition of Kantharos , a sire we believe to be on a very strong upward trajectory."
Kantharos, who previously stood at Ocala Stud, has had his fee rise to $15,000 from $5,000. He currently ranks sixth among the leading third-crop sires and the third-leading sire of his class with 11 black-type stakes winners.
