Longines Breeders' Cup Turf (gr. IT) entrant Metaboss was pulled up and transported off the Santa Anita Park turf course in an equine ambulance Nov. 2 during a routine gallop in preparation for the Nov. 5 race.
Trainer Phil D'Amato said, while X-rays are still pending, the immediate concern is a possible condylar fracture. He said his team would reevaluate the 4-year-old Street Boss colt after he cooled out and when X-rays arrive.
"He took a bad step and my rider had to pull him up," D'Amato said. "We have to wait for the X-rays to come back."
Metaboss was coming into the Turf off a fourth-place finish in the John Henry Turf Championship (gr. IIT) at Santa Anita Oct. 2. Prior to that, he ran second by a nose to fellow Turf entrant Ashleyluvssugar in the Aug. 20 Del Mar Handicap Presented by The Japan Racing Association (gr. IIT).
Campaigned by an ownership group headed by Blue Skies Stables and MRS Stables, Metaboss has won three of 12 starts with $300,420 in earnings.
