Four-Time Grade I Winner Fly Till Dawn Dies

Multiple grade I winner Fly Till Dawn died in late October at Nick Lotz's Briarbrooke Farm in Paris, Ky., the farm where he was born and returned after being pensioned from his stallion career.
"He sure was a lot of fun to watch run," Lotz said. "After he was retired as a stallion, we were happy to bring him back to the farm where he was born."
Campaigned by his breeder Josephine Gleis and trained by Darrell Vienna, Fly Till Dawn won seven stakes including grade I scores in the 1990 Budweiser International Handicap (gr. IT) at Laurel Park and the Eddie Read Handicap (gr. IT) at Del Mar. Two seasons later he would take the San Luis Rey Stakes (gr. IT) at Santa Anita Park before closing out his career with a win in the San Juan Capistrano Invitational Handicap (gr. IT) there.
In the 1 3/4-mile San Juan Capistrano, Fly Till Dawn topped 1991 Breeders' Cup Turf (gr. IT) winner Miss Alleged by seven lengths.
As a stallion at Dixiana Farm and Spendthrift Farm from 1992-2004 and then at Briarbrooke in 2005, Fly Till Dawn, by Swing Till Dawn—Flying Fortress, by Carwhite, had 89 winners from 141 starters. He had eight black-type stakes winners including 1996 Iroquois Stakes (gr. III) winner Global View and 2000 Valley View Stakes (gr. IIIT) winner Good Game.
After that 2005 season Fly Till Dawn was pensioned at Briarbrooke.
