Thoroughbred Charities of America held an “Evening with Team California Chrome  ” the evening of Nov. 2. The fundraising event, held at Matt Denny’s Ale House in Arcadia, Calif., drew a crowd of some 150 with a good mix of industry insiders and fans of the 2014 Horse of the Year.

Paul Lo Duca served as the master of ceremonies at the event that featured plenty of back stories and insight from trainer Art Sherman, co-breeder and co-owner Perry Martin, jockey Victor Espinoza, and Frank Taylor of Taylor Made Stallions.

California Chrome will stand at stud at Taylor Made at the conclusion of his racing career.

Each participant shared plenty of mic time, with Espinoza discussing the cohesiveness he feels when he is aboard California Chrome. He also went into how strong and confident the horse has been throughout his 2016 campaign.

Taylor discussed the brilliance of California Chrome’s pedigree and how he’s learned what a good team Sherman and Martin have put around the horse.

Silent auction items also helped raise funds for TCA. Two special items were auctioned at the end of the evening with a halter worn by California Chrome selling for $3,100. The big ticket item of the evening, the silks which Espinoza will wear aboard California Chrome in the Nov. 5 Breeders’ Cup Classic (gr. I), brought $13,000.
