Stronach Stables' Shaman Ghost, the winner of the Sept. 3 Woodward Stakes (gr. I), will be scratched from the $6 million Breeders' Cup Classic (gr. I) at Santa Anita Park after spiking a fever in recent days, trainer Jimmy Jerkens said the morning of the Nov. 5 event.

"He came down with a slight temperature and left a lot of feed," Jerkens said. "Something is not right. I feed him myself at night and last feed is at 7:30 p.m. and he ate most of his 4:30 p.m. feed, but he left everything I gave him after that, which is very unusual.

"He didn't eat much during all day (Friday) and last night. We took his temperature and it was just below 102 degrees."

Bred by Adena Springs, Shaman Ghost was 20-1 on the morning line for the Classic, which is now down to a field of nine. The son of Ghostzapper   also won the Brooklyn Invitational Stakes (gr. II) at Belmont Park June 11.

Jerkens is still set to be represented in the Classic by grade I winner Effinex.
