Baffled, a daughter of Distorted Humor  , sold for $3.5 million to John Malone's Bridlewood Farm and became the new sale topper to that point at the Fasig-Tipton November sale Nov. 7 in Lexington. She is in foal to leading North American sire Tapit  .

The mare is the dam of grade I winner Constitution   (by Tapit) and grade III winner Jacaranda (by Congrats).

"She’s got it all, looks, triple graded stakes producer, in foal to the best stallion in America, say no more," said George Isaacs, general manager of Bridlewood, who was sitting with Malone. "She’s what we’re looking for. We’re trying to develop a serious breeding program, and she’s the goods. Hopefully we get a good colt. A little more than I wanted to pay, but the good ones cost."

"(John Malone) didn’t make the money he made by being silly with his money," Isaacs continued. "And I didn’t get where I am in my career by being silly with my boss’ money."

Later in the sale, Jacaranda went through the Fasig-Tipton ring and brought a final bid of $2 million from Alpha Delta Stable, bought on its behalf by agent Reynolds Bell. The 4-year-old filly is in foal to Candy Ride  .

"Well you saw what her mother brought," Bell said. "It’s a great family; the kind of mares that we want to have for Alpha Delta Stables."

He said they were interested in Baffled but the price climbed too high, which Bell said probably bolstered the price on Jacaranda as well.

"We were in that neighborhood," he saiad. "After what the mare brought, we arranged our sights a little bit, just because that’s the market we’re in. The good ones are bringing the top dollar, that’s what you got to do. And you don’t get them all, we got beat on a lot tonight. So, that’s a horse sale."
