The Bedouin Bloodstock-consigned Bryan's Jewel commanded a session-leading $580,000 in mid-afternoon Nov. 10, during the first session of Book 2 of the Keeneland November sale.
Eight-year-old Bryan's Jewel, in foal to Speightstown , sold to Wayne and Cathy Sweezey's Timber Town and Jane Winegardner, with Virginia-based bloodstock agent Patrick Lawley-Wakelin signing the ticket.
"We were absolutely looking forward to buying her all day," said Lawley-Wakelin, noting that she'd run a strong number on Thoro-Graph and that they like the breeding to Speightstown.
Lawley-Wakelin said the connections will meet over the next two or three days to discuss her breeding for next season.
Winegardner has a background in hunter-jumpers and is on the Kentucky Horse Park board.
"The partners are Timber Town Stable, Wayne and Cathy Sweezey, and Jane Winegardner who has been a dear friend of theirs for a number of years and has decided she would like to get in on a few mares," Lawley-Wakelin said. "She really wanted to do that with Wayne and Cathy and they are all having fun doing it."
Bryan's Jewel won eight of 35 starts in a five-year racing campaign, including the 2013 Obeah Stakes (gr. III) and John W. Rooney Memorial Stakes at Delaware Park, and placed in eight added-money races. The daughter of Rockport Harbor has a weanling filly by Bodemeister who went through the ring immediately after Bryan's Jewel and sold for $140,000 to Villa Roja Bloodstock.
Lawley-Wakelin siad they were encouraged by the good looks of the weanling filly out of Bryan's Jewel.
Bryan's Jewel's second dam, stakes-placed Marshesseaux, is the dam of champion older male Left Bank, and stakes winners Marsheslew and Flag On the Play.
Earlier in the session, the team purchased 5-year-old Queenie's Song (in foal to Lemon Drop Kid ) for $470,000.
