Richard and Bertram Klein's Miz Ida, a five-time stakes winner, twice in graded company, has been retired after her fifth-place finish in the Ellis Park Turf Stakes July 5.
The 5-year-old Kentucky homebred mare by Proud Citizen out of the Green Alligator mare May Gator raced 19 times with seven wins and three second-place finishes for earnings of $483,498. Eighteen of her starts were on the turf.
"She went home happy and sound," Richard Klein said July 7. "It looks like she's more interested in being a broodmare than a racehorse."
Miz Ida, trained by Steve Margolis, was unplaced in three starts this year. In June 2013 she won the Mint Julep Stakes (gr. IIIT) at Churchill Downs, and ended her season with a second-place finish in the Cardinal Handicap (gr. IIIT), also at Churchill.
Her other graded-stakes win came in the grade III Valley View Stakes on grass at Keeneland in 2012, the same year she won the LaCombe Memorial Stakes, Indiana Distaff Stakes, and Kentucky Downs Ladies Turf.
