Half Dome Dude sets Remington Park track record for 4 1/2 furlongs Dec. 3.
Half Dome Dude set a track record Dec. 2 at Remington Park, flying to the mark at the rarely run distance of 4 1/2 furlongs .
Owned by Randy Howg of Enchant, Alberta, Canada, and trained by Robertino Diodoro, Half Dome Dude was ridden by Geovanni Franco in the allowance/optional claiming event.
An 8-year-old Kela gelding, Half Dome Dude broke sharply and immediately dueled with other speedy front-runners, Devious Rumor, Beluga Bob, and Perfect Majestic. Coming off the turn, all but Half Dome Dude had anything left, as he proceeded to pull clear throughout the stretch, winning by an astounding five lengths for the short sprint distance.
Half Dome Dude crossed the finish in :51.26 over a fast track. The old mark for 4 1/2 furlongs at Remington Park was held by Red Rally, who handled the distance in :52.03 Nov. 22, 2013.
Countercyclical was along for second with Gospel Style third, nine lengths behind Half Dome Dude.
Half Dome Dude is a Kentucky-bred out of the Salt Lake mare Laker Girl. Bred by Jay Manoogian, Half Dome Dude won his 11th race from 51 attempts in setting the new Remington Park record in his first attempt locally. The $8,757 made by Half Dome Dude increases his lifetime earnings to $232,438.
