Greatbullsoffire Tops Futurity

Greatbullsoffire won the Maryland Million Nursery Stakes in late October
Drawing the outside nine post shouldn’t be a problem for the versatile Greatbullsoffire, the likely choice for Laurel Park’s $100,000 Maryland Juvenile Futurity Dec. 10. The seven-furlong race, along with the companion Maryland Juvenile Filly Championship Stakes are restricted to Maryland-bred/Maryland-sired horses.
Greatbullsoffire, owned by Kathleen Willier and trained by Hamilton Smith won Laurel’s Maryland Million Nursery Stakes in late October and was third as the 11-10 choice in the Christopher Elser Memorial Stakes last out at Parx.
“That’s a pretty nice young colt that beat us and we have to hook him again this time, so we’ll see what happen,” Smith said. “We have a nice colt, no doubt about it. He hasn’t run a bad race yet.”
The winner that day, O Dionysus, returns and will break from post 5. The son of Bodemeister , bred by Dark Hollow Farm, was a $190,000 Fasig-Tipton Midlantic fall yearling purchase by Peter Angelos’ Marathon Farms.
The Juvenile Filly Championship Stakes appears open with consideration pointing toward recent maiden winner Lucky in Malibu, Maryland Million Lassie Stakes winner Item, and Crabcakes, who wheels back quickly after a five-length score in her Dec. 3 debut at Penn National.
Also on the card is the $100,000 Willa On the Move Stakes at six furlongs for older fillies and mares. The headliner is Lady Sheila Stable’s grade III winner Hot City Girl.
