Gunnevera after his Delta Downs Jackpot Stakes (gr. III) win
Trainer Antonio Sano has mapped out a best-case-scenario schedule for multiple graded-stakes winner Gunnevera, targeting the $350,000 Holy Bull Stakes (gr. II) Feb. 4 at Gulfstream Park following a prep race.
"I want to run him in the Holy Bull, and if he runs good, I'll go in the Florida Derby (gr. I). There's no room for the Fountain of Youth (gr. II). I'll run in the Florida Derby, and then I hope Kentucky Derby (gr. I)," said Sano of a scheduled three-race Triple Crown preparation culminating with a start in the $1 million Florida Derby at Gulfstream April 1.
Gunnevera, who won the Saratoga Special (gr. II) at Saratoga Race Course Aug. 14, most recently captured the $1 million Delta Jackpot Stakes (gr. III) by 5 3/4 lengths under Javier Castellano.
"I was very happy. I really liked the horse to win the race," Sano said. "Castellano did a nice job in the race."
