Elite European sprinter
Slade Power, winner of the Diamond Jubilee (Eng-I) in June at Royal Ascot, has been purchased by Darley to stand next year at Kildangan Stud in Ireland.
The 5-year-old son of Dutch Art will remain in training with Edward Lynam and continue to race for his owner-breeder, Sabena Power, until the end of this year. His goals include the July 12 Darley July Cup (Eng-I), a race in which he finished third last year, and the VRC Sprint (Aus-I) Nov. 8 at Flemington.
From his sire's first crop, Irish-bred Slade Power is out of the winning Key of Luck mare Girl Power. He has a 9-3-2 record from 17 career starts anchored by four other group victories, including the 2013 QIPCO British Champions Sprint (Eng-II) at Ascot after a runner-up finish in the Betfred Sprint Cup (Eng-I) at Haydock.
"Slade Power is an incredibly tough racehorse who consistently performs at the highest level," said Joe Osborne, Darley's managing director in Ireland. "He's the Northern Hemisphere's best sprinter and with a physique to match, he'll be a popular addition to our roster when he retires to stud at Kildangan at the end of the year."
