Pure Sensation, the only American entry in the Dec. 11 Longines Hong Kong International Races, is a questionable starter due to problems with both his left hind leg and left fore foot, local stewards said Dec. 9.
The 5-year-old Zensational gelding, owned by Patricia Generazio and trained by Christophe Clement, is in for the group 1 Longines Hong Kong Sprint against a tough group of Hong Kong and Japanese runners. He comes to the race off a third-place finish in the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint (gr. IT) at Santa Anita Park.
The Hong Kong Jockey Club stewards reported Wednesday that Pure Sensation was responding to treatment for lameness in his left hind leg and he did not appear for scheduled trackwork Thursday. He also remained in the quarantine stable Friday and the HKJC reported the horse now has left fore foot lameness.
"In accordance with established practice," the HKJC said, "Pure Sensation will be re-evaluated along with all other runners on Saturday morning and a decision whether to allow him to start on Sunday will be taken after that examination."
Pure Sensation also reportedly had difficulty negotiating right-handed turns during trackwork early in the week.
