Cool Arrow Cruises to Springboard Mile Win

Cool Arrow wins the 2016 Springboard Mile at Remington Park
Brad Grady's Cool Arrow got away with dawdling fractions and had plenty left late to win the $300,000 Springboard Mile with ease Dec. 11 at Remington Park.
Cool Arrow, a 2-year-old Into Mischief colt trained by Joe Sharp, cleared the field of 12 juveniles without any trouble from the outside post, set fractions of :24.68, :49.79, and 1:14.54 through six furlongs, and was never seriously challenged under jockey Luis Saez.
Cool Arrow cruised to the wire in 1:38.72 to secure his second stakes win. His first stakes score came two starts back, also at Remington, in the Kip Deville at six furlongs.
The Springboard Mile was his first try in a two-turn contest. Since breaking his maiden in a $40,000 maiden claiming race at Laurel Park, Cool Arrow hasn't finished out of the exacta. He also ran second to Warrior's Club in the Spendthrift Stallion Stakes Oct. 30 at Churchill Downs.
Totality rallied from eighth to come in second, 3 1/2 lengths behind the winner and a head in front of third-place finisher U S Officer.
Off as the 8-5 favorite, Cool Arrow paid $5.20, $3.40, and $3.40 across the board. Totality brought $5.20 and $4.40, and U S Officer delivered $7.20 to show.
Bred in Kentucky by H. Allen Poindexter, out of the Mr Purple mare Phoenicia, Cool Arrow now has $282,835 in earnings. Grady’s Grand Oaks purchased the colt for $120,000 from consignor Gainesway at the 2015 Fasig-Tipton New York Saratoga select yearling sale.
Rowdy the Warrior closed from ninth to pick up fourth, followed by Hallelujah, Young American, Equator, Imma Wild Bling, Cu Rahy, Prados Way, Raising Rumors, and My Golden Aura, to complete the order of finish.
Also on the Sunday card, which featured five stakes, Dundalk 5's Miss Mo Kelly won her stakes debut in the $100,000 She's All In Handicap. The 4-year-old Congrats filly came into the mile-and-70-yard race winless in her last six starts for trainer Paul Holthus, but closed with vigor from eighth to win by two lengths over Chronologic'sghost.
Favored Terra Promessa, who won the Honeybee (gr. III) and Fantasy (gr. III) at Oaklawn Park in the spring, made her first start since a 10th-place run in the Longines Kentucky Oaks (gr. I) and finished 7th in the She's All In.
Other stakes winners Sunday included Fern Circle Stables' Perfect Wife in the $100,000 Trapeze, C. R. Trout's Hailstorm Slew in the $50,000 Unseeit, and Henry Thilmony's Hyper Drive in the $50,000 Jim Thorpe.
