While no foul play is suspected, the Pascua Yaqui Tribe reports that an investigation is being conducted following the death of two-time Eclipse Award-winning jockey Garrett Gomez.

Gomez, 44, died Dec. 14 at the Casino Del Sol Resort near Tucson, Ariz. The Pima County Office of the Medical Examiner will conduct an exam to determine the cause of death.

Pascua Yaqui Tribe attorney general Fred Urbina said at approximately 2:30 p.m. local time Dec. 14, Pascua Yaqui police officers were dispatched to the Casino Del Sol Resort in response to a report of an unconscious man in a hotel guest room. The Pascua Yaqui Fire Department also was dispatched.

The man, later identified as Gomez, was discovered on the floor of the room and appeared to be deceased. He was attended to by emergency personnel and declared dead at the scene. Gomez's family members were then notified.

"We are sorry to learn of the loss of Mr. Gomez and our deepest sympathies and prayers go out to the Gomez family, friends, and loved ones," Urbina said.
