Palm Meadows to Undergo Resurfacing

Palm Meadows, the Gulfstream Park satellite training facility conceived and designed by Frank Stronach, will undergo a resurfacing before it reopens in September.
Winter home and training center to five of the past nine winners of the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) and six of the past 11 winners of the Belmont Stakes (gr. I), the Florida track is currently being surveyed. Materials will soon be taken off the base and 4,000 yards of topsoil will be brought in. The topsoil is similar to that which was first put on the track when it opened in 2002.
"It's very important that Palm Meadows remains one of the world's top training centers and we maintain the integrity of the track, turf course, and facility," said Gulfstream Park's vice president of racing P.J. Campo.
"The work being done in the next several months will ensure Palm Meadows continues to be the winter home of champions. The work at Palm Meadows will be completed by the time the facility reopens in September after Labor Day."
Palm Meadows, a sprawling 286-acre facility in Palm Beach County, has a seven-furlong, 176-foot wide turf course, 1 1/8-mile main track, and one-mile jogging path. Its 40 barns can accommodate 1,325 horses.
