Mobil Sky with Jacob Radosevich aboard wins the Joshua Radosevich Memorial

In an emotional winner's circle at Hollywood Gaming at Mahoning Valley Race Course, the winning jockey Jacob Radosevich and trainer Jeff Radosevich were smiling while also remembering the darkest day in their family's lives.

Jacob Radosevich, younger brother of the late jockey Joshua Radosevich, accepted congratulations Dec. 17 after guiding Mobil Sky to victory in the $75,000 memorial race named for his sibling.

The Joshua Radosevich Memorial Stakes for Ohio-bred 2-year-olds going six furlongs is named in honor of the promising jockey whose life was tragically cut short at age 16 from a race-riding accident at Beulah Park Nov. 16, 2005.

LAMARRA: No fault in Accident That Killed Jockey

Winning rider Radosevich said in a 2015 interview "It took me a long time to grieve. I didn't understand, I was in the seventh grade, I wanted answers, and while there are no answers, I know Josh is riding with me. I always wanted to ride in a race with my brother. It will happen one day, but it is going to have to wait."

Rated well off the early pace of race favorite Lunar Heat who set fractions of :23.54 and :48.19, Mobil Sky launched a furious rally while racing wide to take charge in mid-stretch and proceeded to pull clear to win by 2 1/4 lengths under Jacob Radosevich, who rode the gelded son of Mobil   for his uncle Jeff. The official running time on a track labeled muddy was 1:15.80.

Owned by Gerald Silver, Mobil Sky won for the third time in six starts this year and notched his second stakes win. Bred in Ohio by Mapleton Thoroughbred Farm, Mobil Sky earned $45,000 for the victory and now has a career bankroll of $123,300.
