Running in a Kentucky Derby prep in only your second year of racing horses is a big deal, but thanks to Chief Energy, it happened for Ninety North Racing Stable in 2012.
After privately purchasing “Chief” late in his 2-year-old year, they suffered a few setbacks with him while aiming for that year’s Holy Bull Stakes, so shifted focus to the Tampa Bay Derby. For Ninety North’s Justin Nicholson, it was an exciting time.
