Purely A Dream wins the 2017 Bourbonette Oaks at Turfway Park

Living the Dream Racing's Purely a Dream made her season debut an emphatic one, picking up 50 points on the Road to the Kentucky Oaks and completing an exacta sweep for trainer Ken McPeek in the $100,000 Bourbonette Oaks (G3) March 25 at Turfway Park

The Pure Prize filly easily held off the late charge of fellow McPeek trainee Awesome Boss to win by two lengths at odds of 12-1. The Bourbonette was her first start since she finished a tired eighth in an allowance/optional claimer Nov. 26 at Churchill Downs

After stalking the pace set by favored Delphina, who led through a quarter in :23.47 and a half in :46.47 before fading, Purely a Dream took over with a three-wide move through three-quarters in 1:10.93. She turned for home with the advantage under jockey Robby Albarado, and drew off to finish the one-mile event in a final time of 1:37.40 on the all-weather track.

The winner returned $27.60, $16.20, and $11, while Awesome Boss brought $11.80 and $6.20. Darkwingsoverdubai ($4) completed the trifecta, and was followed home by Gilded Lily, China Grove, On Her Honor, I'mluckysgirl, Fun, Miss O'Hara, Northwest Bourbon, Delphina, and Jenna J.

Purely a Dream, a $60,000 purchase from St. George Sales' consignment to the 2015 Keeneland September yearling sale, was bred in Kentucky by James Bredin out of the Bachelor Duke mare Yorksters Girl. Her record improved to two wins and a second from four starts for earnings of $105,952.
