Jim and Linda McIngvale, the Houston-based philanthropists and owners of 2015 Eclipse Award-winning sprinter Runhappy , will give away another $10,000 college scholarship during Keeneland's College Scholarship Day April 7, opening day of the spring meet.
This marks the second year in a row the McIngvale's have awarded this scholarship in honor of their champion.
"Runhappy has strong ties to Keeneland," said Jim McIngvale. "He was a graduate of the Keeneland September sale and went on to win some of his biggest races here at this track. So this is a great opportunity to commemorate his efforts, show our appreciation to Keeneland, and most importantly, help contribute to the education of young people."
In 10 career starts from ages 2 to 4, Runhappy earned $1,496,250. From seven wins, the four-time graded stakes winner and 2015 champion sprint male posted grade 1 victories in the NYRA.com King’s Bishop, TwinSpires Breeders' Cup Sprint, and Malibu Stakes, and shattered speed records at both Keeneland and Saratoga.
Now retired to stud duty, Runhappy stands at Claiborne Farm near Paris, Ky. His first foals will arrive in 2018.
Students must be present at Keeneland April 7 for both the registration and drawing of this $10,000 Runhappy College Scholarship.
