Multiple graded stakes winner Olorda will look to call upon her back class against a compact field of four rivals in the $200,000 Orchid Stakes (G3T) at Gulfstream Park April 1.
The Chad Brown-trained Olorda had a short but productive season in 2016, when she won Gulfstream's The Very One Stakes (G3T) and Bewitch Stakes (G3T) in her only two starts a year ago, besting eventual grade 1 winners Dacita and Al's Gal in the process.
In her first outing since taking the Bewitch in April, the 5-year-old daughter of Lord of England (GER) came up short on the fitness scale when she faded to last in the six-horse field for the March 4 The Very One after setting the early pace.
Owned by Martin Schwartz, Olorda is the lone graded stakes winner in the Orchid field and figures to be the controlling speed as she attempts to earn her fifth win in her 12th start.
Stirrup Trouble's Temple Fur is scheduled to make her graded stakes debut in the Orchid. She won the Mary Todd Stakes at Gulfstream Feb. 20 to improve her record to 5-1-1 in 11 starts. The Mark Hennig-trained Summersault is also stepping into stakes company for the first time off consecutive wins in optional-claiming allowance races Dec. 16 and Feb. 4 at Gulfstream.
The Orchid field will also include Juddmonte Farms' Maquette, a daughter of Tapit making her U.S. debut; and Crossed Sabres Farm's Quiet Kitten.
