Willis Horton and Three Chimneys Farm's Will Take Charge breezed five furlongs July 21 in anticipation of his next start in the Aug. 2 Whitney Invitational Handicap (gr. I).
Will Take Charge, a 4-year-old Unbridled's Song colt who was 3-year-old champion male of 2013, worked five furlongs in 1:01.02 on the Oklahoma training track. Trainer D. Wayne Lukas said the colt will have one more work before the $1.5 million Whitney at Saratoga Race Course.
"I took him out to breeze a little bit; he looked good," Lukas told New York Racing Association officials.
Will Take Charge has raced five times this year in top company with a victory in the Oaklawn Handicap (gr. II) and second-place finishes in three grade I events: the Donn, Santa Anita, and Stephen Foster handicaps.
When asked about Will Take Charge facing Palace Malice and other top older horses in the Whitney, Lukas said: "Look, we're the champion. We don't give a damn who shows up. Bring them on. You can't dodge them; they're all going to show up.
"Line them up. Let's see what we've got. There's no place to hide in Saratoga."
