Stonestreet Stables' Valadorna underwent successful surgery April 1 at Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington to repair an incomplete condylar fracture in her left hind according to a release published by Stonestreet April 2.
The Curlin filly, runner-up in the 14 Hands Winery Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1), is scheduled to return to Stonestreet Farm tomorrow.
"Though she will require considerable recuperation, in most cases this injury does not prove career ending; her progress will govern all future decisions. We thank trainer Mark Casse, surgeon Dr. Al Ruggles, and both of their teams for the excellent care they have provided our girl," Stonestreet wrote.
Valadorna had completed five furlongs in 1:00 4/5 at Keeneland and cooled out well before the injury was noticable. The breeze was intended to be a final preperation for the Central Bank Ashland Stakes (G1) April 8.
In her previous five races, Valadorna had not finished worse than third. She was second in her debut at Churchill Downs before breaking her maiden at Keeneland by six lengths. After finishing runner-up to Champagne Room in the Juvenile Fillies she won an allowance optional claiming race at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots, and then finished third behind Farrell and Majestic Quality in the grade 2 Rachel Alexandra Stakes, just missing second by a neck.
