He grew up around horses and he’s learned from some of the most prominent horsemen in recent history — now, Kent Sweezey is taking his shot at the big time. Sweezey, 31, has spent the past several years as an assistant to trainer Jimmy Jerkens and recently started training a stable of horses on his own.
America’s Best Racing’s Dan Tordjman caught up with the young trainer about the big move from assistant trainer to trainer, and some of the challenges Sweezey is preparing to face.
