With the bloodstock market trending toward quality, one of the focal points of the April 25-28 Ocala Breeders' Sales' spring sale are 2-year-olds produced from grade 1-winning or -producing mares.
Spinaway Stakes victress Appealing Zophie, is represented in the sale by a Candy Ride colt consigned as Hip 120 by Flying Fish, agent, and is also beneficiary of a major family upgrade since the catalog was printed. The Successful Appeal mare’s 3-year-old is Tapwrit, a $1.2 million yearling sale who won the Lambholm South Tampa Bay Derby (G2) and is now among the leading contenders for the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (G1).
Hip 1064, from de Meric Sales, agent, is a colt by Bernardini produced from the English classic winner Sleepytime, a two-time group 1 winner sired by Royal Academy. The mare has also produced English group 3 winners Gentleman’s Deal and Hathal.
An OBS entrant with one of the strongest active pedigrees in North American racing is Hip 132 (Randy Bradshaw, agent), a Giant's Causeway colt produced from Ava Knowsthecode, a grade 3-placed daughter of Cryptoclearance. Among the mare’s eight winners are grade 1 winners Justin Philip and Greenpointcrusader, grade 2 winner Keyed Entry, and grade 3 winners Algorithms and Successful Mission.
A full sister to multiple grade 1 winner Real Solution is consigned by Timber Creek, agent, as Hip 944. The Kitten's Joy filly produced from the winning Pulpit mare Reachfortheheavens, is also a full sister to stakes winner Ava's Kitten.
