Among the last horses through the ring during the April 26 second session of the Ocala Breeders' Sales spring 2-year-olds in training sale was an attractive daughter of Malibu Moon who eventually went to Speedway Stable for $650,000.
The price was the most for a filly and second-highest overall on the day in which there was continued brisk trade at the Ocala, Fla., auction.
"She is an elegant filly," said Marrette Farrell, who represented Speedway in the purchase. "We are being selective and are trying to buy a well-bred filly that goes on to be a top-class filly worth a lot residually and she fit the bill. She was our top pick in the sale."
Speedway is comprised of Peter and Ann Flour and K.C. Weiner.
Farrell said it was also an asset that the filly is a daughter of Spendthrift Farm's Malibu Moon.
"When you think about all that he's done and caliber of horses he's produced and compare that with the sort of sexy first-season sires that are making a ton of money, she represents good value and that is important to us," Farrell said.
The filly, foaled March 6, 2015, is the second foal out of the More Than Ready mare In the Slips, a stakes winner in England who placed in two graded stakes in Southern California. Included in the filly's female family is group 1 Emirates Melbourne Cup winner Delta Blues.
Bred in Kentucky by Hunter Valley Farm, the filly was purchased by Oak Farm for $47,000 from Eaton Sales at the 2016 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky October yearling sale.
She was offered at OBS as Hip 591 by the sale's leading consignor Eddie Woods.
"She is a spectacular filly and she's done everything right from day one," Woods said.
