Sircat Sally wins the 2017 Senorita Stakes (G3T)

Another month, another easy victory for Joe Turner's undefeated homebred filly Sircat Sally.

Four weeks after her easy, frontrunning victory in the Providencia Stakes (G3T), the California-bred daughter of Surf Cat put in a repeat performance May 6 in the $100,000 Senorita Stakes (G3T) at Santa Anita Park

Just like the Providencia, Sircat Sally broke well and hit the front easily to run the first quarter in :24.24 on the firm Santa Anita grass. Spy Ring began to press the pace in the backstretch and the half-mile went in :48.45. Although the lead slimmed to a half-length through six furlongs in 1:12.83, jockey Stewart Elliott remained calm and pulled away gradually in the stretch to win by 1 1/2 lengths.

"She made the lead easy and she's push-button to ride," Elliott said. "She'll slow down, speed up—whatever you want. When I asked her the last part, she finished out."

Beau Recall closed from last in the six-filly field to pick up second place, a head in front of Pacific Wind.

"She's very professional," Dan Ward, assistant to trainer Jerry Hollendorfer, said of Sircat Sally. "She has just as much kick as the closers, but she has more speed. It's a very good combination. I think someday, if they go fast and she sits off the pace, she'll be able to do that, too."

It was the sixth straight win for Sircat Sally, and her fourth straight on grass. She now has $408,860 in earnings.

"I've been breeding horses for over 30 years," Turner said. "This is like a dream come true. Her mother, Sister Sally, just had a beautiful filly by Square Eddie  , so we're very excited for the future."
