NBC's telecast of the May 6 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (G1), won by Always Dreaming, earned the second-best Derby overnight numbers in the past 25 years with a 10.5 rating and a 23 share.

This year's 10.5/23 TV-only overnight is up 12% from 2016 when Nyquist  's Derby victory attracted a 9.4/21. NBC's Kentucky Derby coverage has generated TV-only 10.0-or-better overnight ratings for four of the past five years, which the network reported as the first such stretch since Winning Colors won the Derby in 1988 through Lil E. Tee's upset of Arazi in 1992.
