While it’s logical to assume that the $200,000, Grade 3 Peter Pan Stakes at Belmont Park is named after the famous flying boy featured in a variety of books, movies and stage plays, that’s not precisely true. In reality, the race is named for a Thoroughbred named Peter Pan, who was born in 1904, the same year that the famous play Peter Pan — or, “The Boy Who Wouldn’t Grow Up” — was launched.
