R Paper Chaser wins by a head at first asking May 10 at Gulfstream

Woodford Thoroughbreds' grade 1 freshman sire Currency Swap   got his first winner from his first runner May 10 at Gulfstream Park where his daughter R Paper Chaser prevailed in a battle in her debut.

R Paper Chaser flew out of the gate and took the field through blistering fractions of :21.32 and :44.76. The hot pace took its toll in the stretch, however, where Go Astray rallied and drastically shrunk the pacesetter's advantage six strides from the wire. R Paper Chaser held to win by a short head, getting the 4 1/2 furlongs in :51.74.

Bred in Florida by LynnDale Farm, Toni Jones, and Dalyn Jones, the winner is out of the unraced Wildcat Heir daughter Paper Cat. R Paper Chaser is now the mare's third winner from as many foals to race.

R Paper Chaser was sold by Woodford Thoroughbreds at the 2016 Ocala Breeders' Sales August yearling sale for $22,000 to De Meric Stables as agent. De Meric pinhooked her into this year's OBS March sale, where Averrill Racing bought her for $30,000. Averrill races the filly with CCF Racing Stable. Ralph Ziadie is her trainer.

Currency Swap, a son of High Cotton  , won the Three Chimneys Hopeful Stakes (G1) at 2 and the Amsterdam Stakes (G2) at 3. He compiled a 4-2-1 record in 10 starts and banked $459,300. He stands at Woodford Thoroughbreds in Florida for $2,500.
