Breeder A. Thom Brede Dies at 78

A. Thom Brede, a Thoroughbred breeder and horse show judge, died April 20.
Brede, with his late wife Ann "Wissie" Brede, moved their horse operations from Pennsylvania to Kentucky in 2000. Along with his family, Brede owned Audley End and Taterland Farms in Stamping Ground, Ky. He was 78.
Brede was a United States Equestrian Federation judge who has judged hunters at every major horse show in the U.S. and Canada for more than 50 years and chaired the USEF Licensed Officials Committee.
Brede's professional accomplishments include being inducted into the National Show Hunter Hall of Fame and having received the Pennsylvania Horse Shows Association's Lifetime Achievement Award.
In recent years, Brede was well known in his community for his charitable work for his family's foundation, The Taterland Foundation. Over the years The Taterland Foundation provided winter coats and truckloads of clothing, firewood, and home supplies, as well as sponsoring educational programs in the Scott County schools.
Brede is predeceased by his wife, Wissie, and is survived by his daughter, Jessica, and her husband Larry Eisenberg. Brede had two grandchildren, Thomas Carolin and Kathryn Fidler.
