Jockey Trevor McCarthy reached his 1,000th win May 13 when he rode Rainbow Heir to a 1 3/4-length victory in the Wolf Hill Stakes at Monmouth Park.
In an off-the-turf edition of the five-furlong Wolf Hill, New Farm's homebred and McCarthy chased from third in the early stages of the race before going three wide on the turn and drawing clear of five rivals in the stretch of the sloppy, sealed track. The Jason Servis trainee stopped the clock in :58.06.
"(Rainbow Heir) relaxed nicely up the backside. He was well within himself the whole way. When we turned for home, he really kicked it in. It was all him today, very professional," said McCarthy, who celebrates his 23rd birthday May 16.
"It's nice to get my 1,000th win in a stakes race," he added. "I'm very greatful for the owners and trainers who have allowed me to reach this milestone. I'll cherish this moment for quite sometime."
The Delaware native already notched another win May 14 when he took the first race at Pimlico Race Course aboard Secure Investments' Expect a Kitten for trainer Graham Motion.
McCarthy rode his first winner in September 2011, piloting Jungle Chief to a claiming victory at Penn National Race Course. Since then, he's accumulated nine graded stakes victories and earnings of more than $30.5 million from 5,561 mounts. This year, he has 101 wins from 485 starts and almost $3.3 million in earnings.
