Sense Of Occasion flew home to take the grade 1 Hardy Brothers Doomben Cup, run clockwise at over 2,000 meters (about 1 1/4 miles), in thrilling style at Doomben May 20.

It was the fourth stakes victory and second in group company for the Street Sense gelding, following success in the Villiers Stakes (G2) at Randwick earlier this season.

Jumping from an outside post, the 6-year-old travelled comfortably near the tail-end of the field before showing a superb turn of foot at the top of the straight. Weaving to the far outside of the course, the Kris Lees trainee charged home to claim a dominant 1 1/2-length victory ahead of grade 2 winner Star Exhibit. The final time for the distance was 2:06.63 on a track labeled heavy.

Sense of Occasion now has a record of 8-6-3 from 34 starts and AU$1,691,020 (just more than US$1.5 million) in earnings.

Bred by Shadwell Stud Australasia, Sense Of Occasion is out of Zabeel mare Saywaan, who is from the family of graded 1 winner Rewaaya.

Sense Of Occasion is one of 21 group winners for his sire Street Sense, who is standing at Jonabell Farm for a fee of $45,000 in 2017.
