In case anyone is looking for another reason to like Always Dreaming in the May 20 Preakness Stakes (G1), the performance record of his grandsire's progeny at Pimlico Race Course provides ample evidence.
Gainesway's Empire Maker is the grandsire of Always Dreaming, a son of WinStar Farm's second-crop sire Bodemeister . From 2000-16, Empire Maker sired 11 winners at Pimlico out of 33 starters. Among his winners are five black-type stakes winners (15% from starters) and three (9%) graded stakes winners. These statistics were compiled by BloodHorse MarketWatch to provide insight into the proclivity for the Pimlico track that Preakness starters might possess, as well as other starters during the Preakness weekend.
Bodemeister is set to have his first runner at Pimlico May 19 when Bode's Dream starts in the Adena Springs Miss Preakness Stakes (G3) for St. Elias Stable. It won't be surprising if she takes to Pimlico's main track, since Bodemeister finished second there in the 2012 Preakness.
