Limousine Liberal, winner of the Churchill Downs Stakes Presented by TwinSpires.com (G2) May 6, will seek to back up that effort in the $100,000 Aristides Stakes (G3) June 3 at Churchill Downs.
The six-furlong Aristides, named in honor of the winner of the first Kentucky Derby, drew a field of eight older horses.
Limousine Liberal ran second just a head behind Alsvid in last year’s Aristides. The 5-year-old butted heads with champion Runhappy in 2015, when he finished second in the King’s Bishop (G1). The Churchill Downs was his first stakes victory.
"This horse has been showing up every time," said trainer Ben Colebrook. "It’s great that he’s finally a graded stakes winner."
WINCZE HUGHES: Limousine Liberal Gets Graded Glory in Churchill Downs
A couple of recent stakes winners will challenge Limousine Liberal. The Truth or Else took the honors in the Sir Shackleton at Gulfstream Park in late March, while Union Jackson, following a four-month break, will return after a score in the Sam Houston Sprint Cup. Union Jackson checked in third in last year’s Aristides.
Wilbo will seek his first black-type win after an impressive optional-claiming allowance victory at Churchill in May. His trainer, Chris Hartman, has won the last two runnings of the Aristides with Alsvid. Recount is also proven at Churchill, where he took last year’s Bet On Sunshine Stakes.
