Top international sire Invincible Spirit (IRE) passed two significant milestones June 3 when his 3-year-old son Inns of Court won the Prix du Palais-Royal (G3) at Maisons-Laffitte. The colt became both the 100th black-type winner and 50th graded/group winner for the Irish National Stud sire.
A 20-year-old son of Green Desert—Rafha, by Kris, Invincible Spirit has sired 12 crops of racing age that include 889 winners, through June 4. His runners have earned more than $75.7 million and averaged $58,722 per runner.
Inns of Court, bred in Ireland by Darley and racing for Godolphin, has now won three of four starts. The Prix du Palais-Royal was his first black-type win. Prior to his start in the Palais-Royal, he was unplaced in the Abu Dhabi Poule d'Essai des Poulains (G1, French Two Thousand Guineas).
Invincible Spirit has had four black-type stakes winners so far this year—Signs of Blessing, Muthmir, and Tomyris. Besides Inns of Court, two of these stakes winners won group stakes: Signs of Blessing (already a group 1 winner) won the Prix du Saint-Georges (G3) and Muthmir won the Prix du Gros-Chene (G2). Among his 50 graded/group winners, Invincible Spirit has 14 grade/group 1 winners worldwide.
Bred by Nawara Stud in Ireland, Invincible Spirit entered stud at €10,000 in 2003 and was shuttled twice to Australia in 2004 and 2006. This year he stands for €120,000.
