Pennsylvania freshman sire El Padrino 's first starter became his first winner June 8 at Delaware Park, where longshot Whereshetoldmetogo rallied in the stretch to a 2 1/2-length victory.
The colt, out of the winning Domestic Dispute mare Undisputed Legend, broke poorly in the five-furlong, $22,000 maiden claiming race and was soon four lengths behind the rest of the field. As the leaders rounded the turn, however, Whereshetoldmetogo began a fierce rally on the outside. He was third at the top of the stretch, stalled briefly, then got straightened out by jockey Gerald Almodovar to win in 1:00 2/5. At 12-1, the colt was the highest price in the six-horse field.
David Wade bred Whereshetoldmetogo in Maryland and sold him as a yearling through the Northview Stallion Station consignment at Fasig-Tipton's Midlantic yearling sale for $7,000 to Black Cloud Racing.
El Padrino, a grade 2-winning son of Pulpit, placed third in the Remsen Stakes (G2) at 2 and won the 2011 Risen Star Stakes (G2) at 3. The 8-year-old stallion is the first foal out of Enchanted Rock (by Giant's Causeway ) and is a half brother to grade 1 winner and sire Verrazano (More Than Ready ), who has his first yearling crop this year. El Padrino stands at Northview PA in Pennsylvania for $5,000.
