Officials with Global Gaming Solutions announced Sept. 13 that Scott Wells, Remington Park president and general manager, has also been named as president and general manager of Lone Star Park at Grand Prairie, Texas.
Along with Wells' promotion, officials also made additional organizational changes at Lone Star Park, as well as at Remington Park in Oklahoma City.
John Elliott, Global Gaming Solutions CEO, says the executive team shifts will combine a number of functions.
"Scott has proven his management skills and leadership capabilities emulate the vision we have for both Remington Park and Lone Star Park," says Elliott. "Those attributes along with Scott's stellar reputation in the horse racing industry and his experience in Oklahoma and Texas will serve both properties well as we move forward. We are confident both venues will excel under his direction."
Wells' career in the horse racing industry spans 40 years serving in many capacities at racetracks throughout North America. The son and grandson of noted horsemen, he served as assistant trainer to two Hall of Fame members, D. Wayne Lukas and Jack Van Berg, and trained horses himself in the 1970s and 1980s. In 1990, Wells began work at Remington Park in the press box. By 1993, he became assistant general manager at Hollywood Park and soon after served as general manager of Ruidoso Downs.
From 1999 to 2005, while working for Lone Star Park, Wells was instrumental in the reopening of the Hipodromo de las Americas in Mexico City and oversaw the reopening of Maronas, the national racetrack of Uruguay. Wells returned to Remington Park in 2005 and led the track through construction of a casino and eventually through the transition to new ownership when Remington Park was acquired by Global Gaming Solutions in 2010. Additionally, Wells currently serves as Thoroughbred Racing Association president, elected by the TRA board of directors in the spring of this year.
"I am honored to expand my role at Lone Star Park and with Global Gaming Solutions," Wells says. "Having worked in both state's racing industries, I have a understanding of the opportunities we have at both tracks, as well as the ways in which we can enhance the patron experience."
Other Remington Park and Global Gaming Solutions executive team changes were announced.
Sharon Lair was promoted to vice president of marketing and communications, Matt Vance was named vice president of racing and wagering, and Tyler Johnson was moved up to vice president of casino operations. In addition, Matt Jusko was promoted to director of technology services at Global Gaming Solutions.
