Surrender Now scores on debut and gives her sire his first winner

The Lane's End first-year sire and grade 1-winning millionaire Morning Line   had his first winner when Surrender Now took a maiden special weight race for 2-year-old fillies June 9 at Santa Anita Park.

Rockingham Ranch's Surrender Now was sent off as the 5-2 second choice in a field reduced to six after the defection of Nothins Free and Mondaymorningblues, who is also a daughter of Morning Line.

Leaving the turn, Surrender Now inched closer to the lead and then kicked clear with urging to finish the five furlongs in :58.2 and win by two lengths in her debut for trainer Peter Miller.

Bred by Elaine Macpherson in Kentucky, Surrender Now is out of the Stormy Atlantic   mare Surrender. Rockingham Ranch went to $220,000 for the filly consigned by Excel Bloodstock to the Barretts Equine Limited March Select 2-year-old in training sale.

A son of Tiznow   out of the A. P. Indy mare Indian Snow, Morning Line won the 2010 Pennsylvania Derby (G2) and just missed the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile (G1) by a head as a 3-year-old. At 4, he placed in the Donn Handicap (G1) and the Hal's Hope Stakes (G3) before taking the Carter Handicap (G1). At 5, he won the Mervyn LeRoy Handicap (G2).

Morning Line retired with a record of 5-4-2 from 15 starts and $1,251,300 in earnings. He stands at Lane's End for a 2017 fee of $10,000.
