Ocala Stud's freshman sire Prospective , a grade 2-winning son of Malibu Moon , got off to a fast start with his first starter taking a maiden claiming race at Gulfstream Park by 3 3/4 lengths June 9.
Happy River, a filly out of the multiple black-type stakes winner Valid Forbes (by Valid Appeal), broke alertly in the five-furlong test on a sealed Gulfstream main track. She went head-to-head with Two Timing Girl early on, with the opening quarter going in :22.99. Happy River took control of the race midway through the turn and won pulling away from favorite Our Graycious Girl. The final time was 1:00.64.
Robert Shoukry bought Valid Forbes for $4,000 at the 2012 Ocala Breeders' Sales October mixed sale. He bred Happy River in Florida and sold the filly as a weanling through the 2015 Ocala Breeders' Sales' October sale for $12,000 through the Kaizen Sales consignment. Happy River sold again as a yearling at the OBS August sale for $25,000 to trainer Francisco D'Angelo through Peggy Dellheim's consignment. The filly now races for Alvajos Stable.
Prospective is the first foal and only black-type stakes winner produced by stakes winner Spirited Away (Awesome Again). He won the Grey Stakes (G3) at 2 and went on to win five black-type stakes at 3, including the Tampa Bay Derby (G2) and the Ohio Derby (G3). He stands at Ocala Stud for $4,000.
